Needling technique is the moment when therapy happens. The two basic moves are rotation and thrust.
- Rotation: turn the shaft left–right, varying amplitude and speed to regulate qi.
- Thrust: lift and re-insert, controlling depth and tempo to tonify or sedate.
Match the move to the pattern: excess conditions usually call for wide, rapid rotations and brisk thrusts; deficiency needs small, slow, gentle motion. Mastery comes from feeling the patient’s pulse, skin tone and breath, then letting the needle speak the right language.
